●BOOK● OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS 14: AKIRA 3

The fourteeth volume of OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS features the third volume (out of eight) that will collect the manga AKIRA. This third volume includes episodes 29 to 42 (covering pages 201 of AKIRA vol. 2 through page 167 of AKIRA vol. 3 ) when Katsuhiro Otomo was 29-30 years old back in 1984.

When AKIRA was collected in book format for the first time, Otomo gave it a lot of polish; he completed it through additions, corrections, deletions, replacements, rearrangements of pages and frames, he also added finishing touches, new drawings and illustrations. In addition to all that, the title pages of each episodes were also deleted from the book version and they were all collected in the 1995 published book AKIRA CLUB.

This new edition presents AKIRA in the closest way to its original serialization in Kodansha's YOUNG MAGAZINE . In accordance with the purpose of "arranging all of Otomo's works by era and tracing how he has changed as an author," everything, including the title pages, has been restored as much as possible to the way it was when it was serialized for the first time. However, There are some parts where the original illustrations no longer exist, and some parts cannot be restored to the way they were when they were serialized in the magazine because the manuscript was directly edited, but the goal of this new edition is to restore AKIRA to their original state as much as possible, including the original color pages from the serialization, which are all reprinted the same way they were first published in Young Magazine but this time with a pristine printing quality.

●BOOK● OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS 7: APPLE PARADISE

The seventh volume of OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS collects a variety of shorst stories and episodic manga works created by Katsuhiro Otomo between 1980 and 1981 when he was 26-27 years old.

This volume collects in book format for the first time the work, APPLE PARADISE, the unfinished six chapter manga that was only published in magazine format in the early 80's. This volume also includes the twelve fairy tale and literature inspired short story series THAT'S AMAZING WORLD previously collected in HANSEL AND GRETEL (seven of them) and KANOJO NO OMOIDE (彼女の想いで…) (five of them). Aditionally five other short stories are also collected in this book, two of them from the fore-mentioned books another two from SOS TAITOKYO TANKENTAI (SOS 大東京探検隊) and one from GOOD WEATHER.

The manga I・N・R・I has been published this time in the original manuscript format, with the story opening from the end of the book to be read from left to right; when it was collected in a book for the first time, the left and right frames were swapped and it was altered to open from the right.

As in the previous volumes, the manuscripts that had colors are reproduced in color, the same way they were first published in magazines but this time with a pristine printing quality.

The sixth volume of OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS collects two seven short manga works and a series of short manga spreads, centered around two medium-length series that Katsuhiro Otomo created between 1979 and 1980 when he was 25-26 years old.

This volume collects in book format for the first time the work, "G...." illustrated by Otomo and written by Nobuyuki Shirayama (白山宣之). This unfinished four chapter manga was only published in magazine format in the late 70's. This volume also includes the four part manga SEIJAGA MACHINI YATTEKIRU (聖者が街にやって来る) from the same period that was later collected in the book SAYONARA NIPPON as well as the thirteen episodes of the two-page spread comics titled OTOMO KATSUHIRO NO EIYOO MANTEN (大友克洋の栄養満点) only published in Rockin' On Magazine back in the day and never collected in a book before.

The other short stories included are EAST OF THE SUN, WEST OF THE MOON（原案/狩撫麻礼) and A GYAKUSATSUNIN JINKEN (Ａ荘殺人事件) collected in the book SAYONARA NIPPON in the past, SOUND OF SAND and FLOWER originally collected in Kodansha's book OTOMO KATSUHIRO ANTHOLOGY vol.1: KANOJO NO OMOIDE (彼女の想いで…), and RUN and ABUNAI! SEITO KAICHOO (危ない！生徒会長) collected in the second volume: SOS TAITOKYO TANKENTAI (SOS 大東京探検隊)

Finally the manga DON QUIJOTE collected in the book HANSEL & GRETEL (ヘンゼルとグレーテル) has been published this time in the original manuscript format, with the story opening from the end of the book to be read from left to right, because when it was collected in a book for the first time, the left and right frames were swapped and it was altered to open from the right.

●BOOK● OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS 1: JŪSEI (銃声)

The first volume of OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS collects 11 short stories created by Otomo from 1971 to 1974 when he was 17-19 years old.

Among the collected works in this book, the first four are completely unpublished stories, studies and contributions drawn before Otomo's professional debut in 1973, at the young age of 19 with JŪSEI (銃声) published in August 4th issue of Manga Action Zōkan for which Otomo also drew the cover illustration.

The debut work and the rest of the stories have never been collected in any book after their appearance in their respective magazines and can be finally enjoyed with a pristine printing quality for the first time after half a century.

The fifth volume of OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS collects 12 short stories created by Otomo from 1977 to 1978 when he was 24-25 years old.

This volume collects two stories previously collected in the book SHORT PEACE (ショート・ピース) published by Kisōtengaisha in 1979 and re-published by Futabasha in 1984. Four stories from the book HIGHWAY STAR (ハイウェイスター) published by Futabasha in 1979, three stories from GOOD WEATHER published by Kitansha in 1981 and one story from the book HANSEL & GRETEL (ヘンゼルとグレーテル). Finally the last two stories: FIRE-BALL and HAIR, both were previously collected in Kodansha's 1990 book KANOJO NO OMOIDE (彼女の想いで…)

In addition, the never before collected story TŌI MATSURI (遠い祭り) an original story by Nobuyuki Shirayama (白山宣之), was included in this book. As in the previous volumes, the manuscripts that had colors are reproduced in color, the same way they were first published in magazines but this time with a pristine printing quality.

The third volume of OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS collects 12 short manga works created by Katsuhiro Otomo from 1976 to 1977 when he was 22 to 23 years old. Even though this book shares its title with the 1979 edition of HIGHWAY STAR (ハイウェイスター) published by Futabasha, its content differs greatly as this new volume collects Otomo's short stories in the chronological order in which they were published for the first time in various magazines back in the day.

In addition to the fore mentioned book, this volume collects stories from SHORT PEACE (ショート・ピース) published by Kisōtengaisha in 1979 and re-published by Futabasha in 1984 and also from GOOD WEATHER published by Kitansha in 1981. All this books have been out of print for a long time so finally this stories can now be enjoyed with a pristine printing quality. The manuscripts that had colors are also reproduced in color, as they were first published in magazines.
