Katsuhiro Otomo has designed a T-shirt with an illustration by the french author Nicolas De Crécy for the International Manga Festival (海外マンガフェスタ) that took place in Tokyo today. It was on sale in the booth of De Crécy's Japanese editor with a price tag of ￥3.800.
Shueshia's JUMP X magazine comes to its end in this November's issue and with it, OYAJISHU (親父衆), the monthly collection of illustrated essays by various manga artists, in which Katsuhiro Otomo has regularly collaborated. Here the goodbye message from Otomo (大友克洋), Katsuya Terada (寺田克也), Isami Nakagawa (中川いさみ) and Sensha Yoshida (吉田戦車). Illustrated by Kastuhiro Otomo.
Today has been announced that a huge mural designed by Katsuhiro Otomo will be installed in the first floor lobby of Sendai Airport Terminal Building. The work is due to be ready by march 2015. The work will measure 8.7m × 2.8m in size and will be produced in ceramic plate relief by Creare Atami Yugawara workshop (クレアーレ熱海ゆがわら工房). The image of work consist on a fictional figure"Doji" followed by Fujin and Raijin that confront the great forces of nature towards a future that is desired.
The illustration by Otomo is a modification of a illustration he did back in 1997 for a hawaian shirt design: KINTARO Matsuri Nami Miasashi (KINTARO 祭波雅). This illustration is collected in the pages 58-59 of the artbook KABA2
Otomo has left a signed drawing in the Humanoids (ユマノイド) 40th anniversary party that took place in Japan. Les Humanoïdes Associés was founded in France on december 1974by Mœbius, Jean-Pierre Dionnet, Philippe Druillet and Bernard Farkas in order to publish Métal Hurlant, it quickly expanded to include a variety of science fiction works.

Katsuhiro Otomo has collaborated in some concept designs from the episode 22 of the TV series SPACE DANDY (スペース☆ダンディ) released weekly by BANDAI visual in multiple internet platforms.

SPACE DANDY is also being released in Japan in Blu-ray and DVD in single discs packs containing three episodes each. The first season that aired between 2014-I-5 and 2014-III-30 consist of 13 episodes collected in 5 discs. The second season containing episodes 14 to 26 will be released in another five discs throughout the year 2015.
Bandai Visual has released a book that covers the process that went behind the making of BUKI YO SARABA (武器よさらば) a short story by katsuhiro Otomo published as a manga in 1981-XI-16 in Young magazine, that was turned into an animated short film directed by Hajime Katoki's (力トキ ハジメ) as part of the omnibus SHORT PEACE project released in 2013 and already available in Blu-ray and DVD. The book also includes the original manga by Katsuhiro Otomo and in case you don't own SHORT PEACE, it was also released a limited bundle that includes the short film in Blu-ray.

"I don't try to make my viewers or readers like something, I think my works that receive praise show exactly that. They're pieces I thought were intriguing — I was fully alive in those worlds. I don't know exactly what the Japanese audience — or another country's audience — is feeling, but I don't believe that everyone who goes to movies goes to see a happy ending every time. If everyone was happy, movies and entertainment would be unnecessary."
On his involvement in the adaptation of AKIRA to a live action film:
"I illustrated the manga then directed the animated film: I will not be involved a third time."
On making live action pictures:
"I would love to make live-action films, but have not had many opportunities. I'd have to start by finding trustworthy staff, which is very difficult. But I will do it. I'm thinking of making a live-action film next."

More than any otehr film, katsuhiro Otomo's AKIRA created an audience for anime in America. An although Otomo sensei's work is usually associated with it's dark despotic vision, his work spans variety of design styles, subjects and moods. An rangers from the charming of the SOS Tokyo metro explores to the lavish victoriam steampunk adventure, Steamboy, the action comedy Roujin Z and Combustible that evoques the look of antique block prints. In Honoring otomo sensei we join with the Japanese government , who awarded him with the medla of purple ribbon and the french government who ordered him with the chevaliere of letters.

Thank you very much, my name is Otomo. I'm so used to work by myself in front of my desk so it just makes me so nervous to stand in front of such a big crowd of people so i just want this to finish as quickly as possible. When I was inform of this award, I was like did I do something special? Because I don't really watch any of my shows a lot, but I guess when i go back to Japan after this I guess I will go back and watch some of them. I will continue to make more shows and I'm sure this award is going to work as a great motivation in making more great shows. Thank you very much.

Hipirakun is a TV animation series of five minute long episodes directed by Shinji Kimura (木村 真二) based on the tale illustrated by himself upon a original story by Katsuhiro Otomo that was published originally in NeNe (ねーねー) magazine between 2001 and 2002 and later collected in the book HIPIRA KUN (ヒピラくん) that is included in this DVD as a still gallery.
Bandai Visual has released today a High Spec Edition Blu-ray of Katsuhiro Otomo's omnibus MEMORIES. The High Specification means that the images have been processed with the new Panasonic proprietary codec named MGVC (Master Grade Video Coding) and the sound is presented in Dolby TrueHD Advanced 96KHz up sampling resulting in a better image quality and higher sound quality than ever before. Memories is a 1995 released film that consist in three original stories by Katsuhiro Otomo.
