●BOOK● OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS 14: AKIRA 3

The fourteeth volume of OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS features the third volume (out of eight) that will collect the manga AKIRA. This third volume includes episodes 29 to 42 (covering pages 201 of AKIRA vol. 2 through page 167 of AKIRA vol. 3 ) when Katsuhiro Otomo was 29-30 years old back in 1984.

When AKIRA was collected in book format for the first time, Otomo gave it a lot of polish; he completed it through additions, corrections, deletions, replacements, rearrangements of pages and frames, he also added finishing touches, new drawings and illustrations. In addition to all that, the title pages of each episodes were also deleted from the book version and they were all collected in the 1995 published book AKIRA CLUB.

This new edition presents AKIRA in the closest way to its original serialization in Kodansha's YOUNG MAGAZINE . In accordance with the purpose of "arranging all of Otomo's works by era and tracing how he has changed as an author," everything, including the title pages, has been restored as much as possible to the way it was when it was serialized for the first time. However, There are some parts where the original illustrations no longer exist, and some parts cannot be restored to the way they were when they were serialized in the magazine because the manuscript was directly edited, but the goal of this new edition is to restore AKIRA to their original state as much as possible, including the original color pages from the serialization, which are all reprinted the same way they were first published in Young Magazine but this time with a pristine printing quality.

The original color spread of the first issue, which is different from the book version, and the color pages from the serialization are all reprinted the same way they were first published in magazines but this time with a pristine printing quality.

●EXHIBITION● AKIRA ART OF WALL

Today opened to the public the SHIBUYA PARCO exhibition that will take place from November 22 to December 16 at Shibuya’s PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO and from November 22 to December 8 at GALLERY X, showcasing the collages created by Kosuke Kawamura (河村康輔) using the images from Katsuhiro Otomo's manga AKIRA. This collages originally covered the 63 meters of the construction site where Shibuya PARCO was being rebuild from May 2017 to August 2019.

OFFICIAL EXHIBITION INTRODUCTION

This exhibition, AKIRA ART OF WALL is a collaboration between the collage artist, Kosuke Kawamura and Katsuhiro Otomo, the author of one of the most celebrated cartoon, AKIEA.

AKIRA is a story set in 2019, a year before the 2020 Tokyo olympics. Kawamura used some images from the cartoon to create some collages, which was shown on a temporary barricade at construction site in Shibuya for 2 years and 3 months as, 'Ast wall (temporary barricade).

Being that the 'Art Wall' functioned as a temporary construction barricade this year in 2019, these two were put together, including documentation of original works of AKIRA. We hope to give a glimpse of the time and city, symbolizing one of the most iconic manga history.

Katsuhiro Otomo has announced in Anime Expo 2019 a new AKIRA anime project that is not going to be a Hollywood live-action movie and will deepen on the content from the six volume manga of AKIRA he created from 1982 to 1990.

●ANNOUNCEMENT● AKIRA 4K remaster

On Spring 2020, Katsuhiro Otomo's, 1988 released animation film AKIRA will be released on 4K Blu-ray with a new 4K scan, 4K remaster and HDR image. The soundtrack will feature a remastered 192 KHz sound supervised by the musical director Shoji Yamashiro.

All the specifications of the two disc set (4K ULTRA HD Blu-ray & Blu-ray) that will be released on March 24, 2020 on Japan with the catalog number BCQA-0009 and a retail price of ￥9,800 are available on the newly launched official sites:

Shoji Yamashiro has taken NTS radio airwaves to present a one-off show running through the musical influences and inspirations behind the soundtrack of AKIRA, Katsuhiro Otomo's animation film. Milan Records has released today "AKIRA - Symphonic Suite", this version is is an analog record based on the master of the high resolution version "Symphonic Suite AKIRA 2016 Hyper High Resolution Edition" released in Japan in download only digital format in 2016. The soundtrack will be released as a double LP in two different presentations, a 180 gram black vinyl and 150 gram transparent clear vinyl with red splatter. Both editions will include download cards for digital booklets that will feature a commentary with the composer Shoji Yamashiro. Milan Records will also release a CD edition of the album as well as downloadable mp3 files.

Today it was released in various digital music formats the ULTRA DEEP HIPER HIGH RES "SYMPHONIC SUITE AKIRA 2016" (ウルトラディープ・ハイパーハイレゾ『交響組曲AKIRA 2016』) composed by Soji Yamashiro (芸能山城組) for the animation film AKIRA directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. ●BOOK● KANEDA'S BIKE by ARVO BROTHERS

Arvo Brothers not only made a wonderfull replica using LEGO pieces of Kaneda's bike featured in Katsuhiro Otomo's AKIRA but they also published back in january 2014 an instruction book that depicted step by step how to build one by yourself. The book even included die-cut decals to decorate your model. After being sold out for a long time today they have released a second edition, this time with a hardcover binding.

●BLU-RAY● AKIRA Blu-ray 30th Anniversary Edition

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Katsuhiro Otomo's epic animation film AKIRA, Bandai visual has released this special edition steel case box of the film that includes the 2009 Blu-ray disc, the bonus disc from the 2001 Special Edition DVD BOX, a booklet and some postcards. Katsuhiro Otomo drew a new illustration for the occasion printed in the backside of the first disc booklet. The illustration is collected in the page 15 of the book KABA 2.
