●LP● AKIRA REMIX

Previously released as a double CD,  Victor Entertainment has released today the double LP version of AKIRA REMIX that collects the background music that was played at the AKIRA CEL ART EXHIBITION, held at Ikebukuro Mixalive Tokyo and Osaka Parco Gallery in August and October 2023. 

The album produced entirely by Otomo himself features the remixes by Makoto Kubota (久保田麻琴), Yasuharu Konishi (小西康陽), and Kuniaki Hiijima (蓜島邦明) of the iconic soundtrack created by Shoji Yamashiro (山城 祥二) and the Geinoh Yamashirogumi (芸能山城組) group for the animation film AKIRA. The cover art features the original design illustrated by Otomo.

●ANNOUNCEMENT● AKIRA REMIX CD


Katsuhiro Otomo has announced in X that the AKIRA Cel Art Exhibition Music CD will be released this summer. AKIRA REMIX produced entirely by Otomo himself features the remixes by Makoto Kubota (久保田麻琴), Yasuharu Konishi (小西康陽), and Kuniaki Hiijima (蓜島邦明) of the iconic soundtrack created by Shoji Yamashiro (山城 祥二) and the Geinoh Yamashirogumi (芸能山城組) group for the animated film AKIRA that celebrated it's 35th anniversary last year.

As part of OTOMO THE COMPLETE WORKS that it's beeing published by Kodansha, the AKIRA CEL ART EXHIBITION was held at Ikebukuro Mixalive Tokyo and Osaka Parco Gallery in August and October 2023, and AKIRA REMIX was created to be played at the background of these two events. 

The double CD  featuring an original new illustration by Otomo as a cover will be available on August 21 with the catalog number VICL-65922～23 and a retail price of ¥4,400 (tax incl.)

Bandai Namco will release Katsuhiro Otomo's AKIRA in a newly remastered special limited edition in Ultra High Definition 4k Blu-ray. The set will include one UHD Blu-ray disc with the movie in 4K and two regular Blu-ray discs with the movie in HD and new bonus content. The set will also include a new special booklet and a sleeve case. Amazon will release a special edition that includes a B2 size reprint of AKIRA's original theatrical poster.

●DOCUMENTARY● AKIRA SOUND MAKING 2019



The documentary "AKIRA SOUND MAKING 2019" was broadcasted for the first time on March 28 at 22:00 on the Japanese TV channel TOKYO MX. The long version of this documentary will be included as a bonus in the "AKIRA 4K Remaster Set" due to be released by Bandai Namco next April 24th after the IMAX theatrical run around Japan that starts on April 3rd.

This new documentary commemorates the release of AKIRA in 4K and the inclusion of a new sound source that was newly remixed under the direction of original film's music director Shoji Yamashiro. In the documentary Reiji Asuka (麻倉怜士) , Yasushi Nagura (名倉靖) and Shoji Yamashiro (山城祥二) himself discuss the new sound of this new edition. The voice of Kaneda, Mitsuo Iwata (岩田光央), Nozomu Sasaki (佐々木望) as Tetsuo, Mami Koyama (小山茉美) as Kay, Takeshi Kusao (草尾毅) as Kai, and Sound Director Susumu Aketagawa (明田川進) also talked about AKIRA in a roundtable discussion.

Shoji Yamashiro has taken NTS radio airwaves to present a one-off show running through the musical influences and inspirations behind the soundtrack of AKIRA, Katsuhiro Otomo's animation film. Dr Yamashiro with his group of musicians known as GEINOH YAMASHIROGUMI created the music for Otomo's film over 30 years ago.

●LP● AKIRA SYMPHONIC SUITE



Milan Records has released today "AKIRA - Symphonic Suite", this version is is an analog record based on the master of the high resolution version "Symphonic Suite AKIRA 2016 Hyper High Resolution Edition" released in Japan in download only digital format in 2016. The soundtrack will be released as a double LP  in two different presentations, a  180 gram black vinyl and 150 gram transparent clear vinyl with red splatter. Both editions will include download cards for digital booklets that will feature  a commentary with the composer Shoji Yamashiro. Milan Records will also release a CD edition of the album as well as downloadable mp3 files.

Today it was released in various digital music formats the ULTRA DEEP HIPER HIGH RES "SYMPHONIC SUITE AKIRA 2016" (ウルトラディープ・ハイパーハイレゾ 『交響組曲AKIRA 2016』) composed by Soji Yamashiro (芸能山城組) for the animation film AKIRA directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. A 36 page digital booklet was also published  for the occasion.
