KODANSHA has released a new edition of AKIRA in Japan. This time presenting the colored version of the manga with japanese texts for the very first time. This second book collects the same episodes of the original black and white volume AKIRA 2. Each of this six volumes of SŌ TEN'NENSHOKU AKIRA (総天然色AKIRA) come in a transparent slip case.

Katsuhiro Otomo's epic manga AKIRA started its serialization in black and white in Young Magazine (ヤングマガジン) on December 20, 1982. The international version colored by by Steve Oliff was first published by Marvel / Epic Comics in color in the US in a 38 paperback issues that were collected in Japan in twelve box sets as ŌRU KARĀ KOKUSAI BAN AKIRA (オールカラー国際版 AKIRA), each set included a booklet with the English-to-Japanese translation.

Katsuhiro Otomo did this illustration for the 1999 released set of phone cards to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Kichiyoji Station. The illustration has been used this time in the promotional posters and the official event guide of this years KICHIJOJI ANIME WONDERLAND 2003 (吉祥寺アニメワンダーランド 2003). The illustration is reprinted in the page 76 of the book KABA 2.

Katsuhiro Otomo collaborated with a one-page illustration in the official book of the animation film NASU - ANDALUCIA NO NATSU (茄子－アンダルシアの夏) directed by Kitarō Kōsaka (高坂 希太郎  based on the manga by Iou Kuroda (黒田硫黄).  Many other cycling fans that also collaborated in Carbon Heart &  Osyare Handle  have also collaborated in this book.

Pioneer has released today in japan a 2 disc limited edition of Katsuhiro Otomo's epic animation film AKIRA on DVD. The first disc that includes the film with a newly remastered 5.1 dts soundtrack is the same that comes in the standard single disc edition release. The second disc includes more than 4500 production still, including the complete storyboard of the film drawn by Otomo, and hundreds of backgrounds and character sheets as well as the original release trailers. This limited edition comes with a special sleep case with an illustration by Katsuhiro Otomo that was reprinted in the page 14 of the artbook KABA 2.
